The Register of Authorised Firms

Every investment firm, fund manager and trading venue on ESMA's union public register — what each one is authorised to do, by whom, since when, and what that authorisation does not cover.

This is not the crypto register. MiFID / AIFMD / UCITS investment firms — NOT the MiCA crypto register. It covers investment firms, fund managers and trading venues under MiFID, AIFMD and the UCITS Directive. A firm listed here may hold no permission for crypto-assets at all. If the firm you are checking offered you crypto, the register you want is the MiCA one, behind the guided check.

An authorisation is not an endorsement. ESMA publishes that a firm is authorised. That is a record of a permission, not a recommendation, and not a statement that the firm is safe. No firm here is scored, ranked or assessed by us, there is no green tick anywhere on this site, and lists are ordered alphabetically so that the order cannot be read as a judgement either.

Each permission is granted separately.A firm may be authorised to transmit your order and not to hold your assets; to advise and not to deal. Anything not named on a firm’s record is outside its authorisation — including lending, staking and “earn” products, which are not investment services under this regime at all.

13,915 entries · 11,602 recorded as current · 2,220 recorded as withdrawn · 93 with no status stated · 31 states · 12 categories · 38,789 named permissions · 1,278 branch entries

By Home Member State

The state whose authority granted the authorisation. A firm authorised in one member state may serve clients in others, so this is not a list of where each firm operates.

Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway appear here as EEA states rather than EU member states, and one entry is recorded against the United Kingdom. We list the register’s own values rather than a tidier set of our own.

By Category

The register’s own classification, printed as ESMA writes it. Two categories are given as bare codes and we leave them that way — expanding an abbreviation we cannot cite would be our claim about how a firm is regulated, not the register’s.

Authorisations That Have Ended

2,220 entries held an authorisation that the register now records as withdrawn, all but one of them with a date. They are listed on every country and category page alongside the current ones, labelled, and collected at authorisations recorded as withdrawn.

The register states that an authorisation ended and when. It does not state why, and we do not infer it. A withdrawal can follow a merger, a voluntary surrender, a wind-down or a decision of the authority, and nothing in this file separates those.

What a Match Here Is Worth

Finding a firm on this page tells you that a named authority authorised a firm of that name to carry on a named activity, and when. That is worth having: it is checkable, it is dated, and it comes from the regulator rather than from the firm.

It does not tell you that the firm contacting you is that firm. A name and a licence number are the easiest things in this industry to copy, and a cloned firm will quote real ones. Compare the website the register records against the site you were sent to, and if they differ, stop.

Not finding a firm here is not a finding either. The register covers investment services in the EEA. A firm can be legitimately authorised outside it, or under a regime this file does not cover, and still be absent. Every nation, every register shows which regimes exist and what each one certifies.
